Batch Control System for Blue Chip Pharma Company
Faced with a demanding deadline our Client engaged with us to upgrade an existing production plant to meet the Businesses' need to bring a new product into the market place without facing contractual penalties.
We conducted a thorough site survey of the existing infrastructure and utilities before performing the detailed design and specification of an entirely new control system.
The only existing site equipment which was to be re-utilised were existing reactors. All new pipework, instrumentation, motors, Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Human Machine Interface (HMI) was required, with the added complexity of being fit for use within a Hazardous Area in accordance with ATEX/DSEAR.
We developed a new control system based upon the Siemens S7-300 platform with Festo remote IO incorporating Pneumatic Solenoid Valves as well as field Mounted Siemens touch screen HMIs. This integrated with a new MCC complete with Profibus DP networked Variable Speed Drives.
At the Clients request the software was developed in a high level programming language, Structured Control Language (SCL), in order to enable the programming of the complex algorithms unique to the Clients production requirements.
