Bridge Inspection Gantry

Working with a major OEM engineering firm Inspec Systems are currently undertaking the EC&I design and build project for a new bridge inspection gantry. This includes the following key deliverables:

  • Cabling detailed design including validation against BS7671
  • Control panel and remote IO detailed design and build
  • Detailed Design Specification for the PLC, HMI and VSD software and configuration
  • Software development
  • Machinery Safety Specification, Design and Implementation
  • Installation and testing
  • Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) specification and execution
  • Site Acceptance Test (SAT) specification and execution
  • FAT, SAT and commissioning support

This project has been observed by those involved as one of the most complex bridge gantry control systems worked upon including complex PLC controlled systems providing:

  • Cross travel and Long travel
  • Anti-crabbing
  • Collision detection
  • Cradle and Bogie levelling
  • VSD controlled speed with Safe Stop 1 (SS1) and Safe Torque Off (STO) safety systems identified and specified with ISO12100 and BS EN ISO 13849-1 and designed/implemented to BS EN 13849-2

This project has required a number of complex interactions with mechanical and hydraulic third parties. Accordingly, we have been managing our resources and processes to meet the clients’ timescales, as well as liaising with the End User and their Third Party Verifiers to ensure the designs are to standard, whilst being fit for purpose.
